How to Use an Elastic Bandage

Elastic bandages are versatile for wrapping ankles, knees, wrists, or elbows. Follow these steps for an ankle wrap:
  • Hold the bandage with the start of the roll facing up.
  • Start at the top of the foot beneath the toes (leave toes exposed).
  • Wrap twice around the foot in a circle, moving from outside to inside.
  • Move to the heel and continue in a spiral pattern, overlapping by ½ width each time.
    • Cross over the foot moving upward behind the ankle.
    • Move down and cross over the top of the foot.
    • Wrap under the foot and repeat once.
  • Wrap upward in circles toward the knee, stopping below the knee.
  • Fasten the end; avoid using metal clips in skin folds or behind the knee.
